Resume Tips #2

If you have your resume to a good place, let's get it to a better place. Here's more tips to really make sure you have a stellar resume.

  1. Quantify your accomplishments: If you're in sales, it's fairly easy, here're some examples, I'll start with good example, "Number one sales executive in 2022". Better would be "Number one sales executive out of team of 25 reps in 2022". Even better would be "Number one sales executive out of team of 25 reps, closing $3MM in sales

  2. Include your contact information: At the top of your resume, provide your full name, phone number, email address, and optionally, your LinkedIn profile or website/portfolio link.

  3. Write a compelling summary or objective statement: This section briefly highlights your qualifications, career goals, and what you bring to the table. Tailor it to the specific job you're applying for.

  4. Showcase your work experience: Start with your most recent job and work backward. Include the company name, your job title, dates of employment, and a concise description of your responsibilities and accomplishments in each role. Focus on quantifiable achievements and use action verbs to make your statements more impactful.

  5. Outline your education: List your educational background, including the institutions you attended, degrees earned, and any relevant coursework or honors achieved. If you have extensive work experience, you can place this section after your work experience section.

  6. Highlight your skills: Create a dedicated section to showcase your key skills relevant to the job. Include both hard skills (e.g., programming languages, software proficiency) and soft skills (e.g., communication, leadership).

  7. Include additional sections (optional): Depending on your background, you may want to add sections such as certifications, volunteer work, publications, or professional affiliations to strengthen your resume.

  8. Tailor your resume to each job: Customize your resume for each position you apply to by highlighting the most relevant skills, experiences, and achievements that match the job requirements.

  9. Proofread and edit: Double-check your resume for any errors, typos, or inconsistencies. Ensure it is well-organized, easy to read, and visually appealing.

  10. Save and share your resume: Save your resume as a PDF or Word document with a professional file name. When submitting electronically, follow the employer's instructions regarding file formats and submission methods.

Your resume is a marketing tool to showcase your qualifications, so make sure it reflects your unique strengths and accomplishments.
